About the trend
What is the Day of the Dead AI trend?
A Day of the Dead AI video (also searched as Día de Muertos AI or Día de los Muertos AI) shows a loved one who has died returning home for the holiday, just as the tradition describes. Each year Mexican families build an ofrenda with marigolds, candles, pan de muerto and photos so the dead can find their way back for one night. The trend began in Mexico on October 2, 2026, with a clip of an older woman arriving at a checkpoint between worlds, where a skeleton officer finds her photo on an altar and waves her through. A day later, a similar clip of a woman clutching her straw hat, captioned “It’s her first Day of the Dead, be patient with her and help her if you can,” supplied the audio most remakes still use.
New versions followed fast. On October 12, loved ones appeared as light before the ofrenda and walked home along a path of marigolds. On October 13, a pet version showed a small dog trotting up to the same counter. On October 20, a glowing bridge of marigold petals appeared, with the visitor pausing to gather a handful. Searches in Mexico for a Day of the Dead AI video hit a three-month high that same day, with November 1 and 2 still to come. All four versions are available above.

Their face appears on a screen as a gentle green light passes over it.
3Remembered
The screen glows warm red and shows their photo on an altar of candles and marigolds. Someone still remembers them, so they may cross.
4Welcome home
The skeleton officer smiles and waves them on. In the pet version, the officer reaches down and lets the little one trot under the marigold arches.
